RE: 12/08/2020 Drinking Water Warning for Manganese
We would like to share an update on things we are doing to work through the current manganese level situation in our water system.
The Water Department has been working with WI DNR representatives on the directions that we need to take in moving forward with the issue we have. We have also been in contact with representatives from WI Rural Water Association about how to handle the issue and what other communities that have this same issue are doing. We have also been in contact with our village engineer to get their input.
Other things that we have been doing to move forward in solving this issue are:
1) We have looked back as far as 1975 to our sample results (DNR only has us sample for manganese every 9 years). They have not changed much in all these years. It seems the EPA threshold has changed. As we look back at our sample results, there in no MCL (Maximum Contamination Level) on the WI DNR sample results form.
2) We have taken 5 new samples from the distribution system around the village and sanitary district (The original samples were taken at the raw water taps at each of the two village wells). We are waiting to receive the results on these samples.
3) We have only been pumping water out of Well 2 (189 ug/l sample results) and only using Well 3 (average 920 ug/l) as backup in case Well 2 were to fail or we have a large fire.
We will continue to dedicate our time to make sure we move forward in the direction that is best for the long range future of our water quality.
If anyone has questions on things we are doing to continue improving the quality of our water, please feel free to call or email the Water Department.
Thanks for your patience while we work through this issue!
